Fox Coloring Pages

14 free printable pages, ready to download and print.

Beautiful fox coloring pages featuring red foxes, fennec foxes, arctic foxes, fox families, and forest scenes.

Foxes sit in an odd spot between wild animal and storybook character, and this collection leans into both. You get the red fox as it actually is, black legs and white tail tip in a real forest, and you get the fox from Aesop staring up at a vine of grapes. These 14 pages cover three separate species and every season. Each one downloads as a free printable PDF sized for US Letter paper, 8.5 by 11 inches, with instant download and no account needed.

Simple and detailed sheets run side by side. Simple line art keeps the fox large with a clean silhouette, workable from about age 4. Red Fox Sitting In A Forest With Bushy Tail and Cartoon Fox With Big Eyes And Fluffy Tail are the easy entries. Detailed sheets add dense fur, snow texture and night skies. Fennec Fox With Enormous Ears In The Desert and Fox Sitting Under The Stars At Night are the two adults tend to keep.

The set is seasonally useful in a way most animal collections are not. Fox Walking Through Colorful Autumn Forest and Fox Kit Playing With Fallen Autumn Leaves get printed heavily in October, while Arctic White Fox In A Snowy Winter Landscape belongs to January. Fox And Grapes Fable Scene In Vineyard is the one teachers pair with a reading lesson, since it illustrates the fable that gave English the phrase sour grapes. All pages are free, printable and instant, with nothing to sign up for.

Two tips for this theme. A red fox is not one red. Lay a warm orange over the back and flanks, leave the throat, belly and the very tip of the tail white, and put near black on the lower legs and the backs of the ears. That four part scheme is what makes the animal read as a fox rather than a dog. For the arctic fox, resist filling the white coat with gray and instead color only the shadows in pale blue, letting the paper carry the fur.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are baby foxes called?

Kits, and sometimes cubs or pups. A vixen usually gives birth to four to six kits in an underground den in spring, and they stay below ground for their first four or five weeks. That is the scene in Fox Family Together With Kits Playing Outside Den, where the kits are just old enough to be above ground.

Why does a fennec fox have such large ears?

To shed heat. The fennec is the smallest canid in the world at roughly 1.5 to 3.5 pounds, and its ears can reach 6 inches, giving a large surface area of thin blood vessels that radiate warmth into the desert air. The ears also pick up prey moving under the sand at night.

What color is an arctic fox in summer?

Brown or gray brown, with a paler underside. The pure white coat only appears in winter, and the animal molts twice a year to switch between them. There is also a rarer blue morph that stays charcoal all year, so a gray arctic fox is not a mistake.

Which fox pages suit younger children?

Choose the simple sheets. Curled Up Fox Sleeping Peacefully In Soft Grass is one large closed shape, and Fox And Rabbit As Unlikely Friends Together gives two clear subjects. Save Fox Family In Their Cozy Underground Den for ages 8 and up, since the den walls carry a lot of texture.
