Young Fox Kit Sniffing At A Wildflower Coloring Page

The whole drawing bends toward one point. The kit has dropped its head nearly to the ground and put its nose against an open flower, and the curve of its back, the tilt of both ears and the line of its foreleg all run down to that contact.
It is drawn young rather than merely small. The muzzle is short, the skull broad between the ears, the paws oversized, and the tail thick and still carried close to the body. Its coat is hatched in fine short strokes that follow the muscle underneath, heaviest along the spine and around the ruff.
Four decorated corners hold the composition in. Each one carries a wide daisy with a stippled center, a spray of spirals, and a pair of bell flowers hanging on fine threads. The flower being sniffed rises from a cluster of long strap leaves at the lower left, with a second bud on its own stalk alongside.
Keep the kit warm and the flowers cool and the point of contact does the rest of the work. A fox kit is born nearly black and does not turn red until its second coat comes in at about a month old, so a smoky brown is more accurate here than bright orange, and it sits better next to pale petals.
