Three foxes are gathered at the mouth of a den, arranged so that none of them overlaps another in a way that would be awkward to color. The largest sits at the right facing out, tail curled forward at its feet. A second sits over at the left in three quarter view. The smallest is planted at the front in the middle, looking straight out at you.

The den itself is a single smooth boulder with an arched opening cut through it, described with a few long curved lines and a handful of short marks standing in for cracks. There is no texture work anywhere on it. Tufts of grass rise on either side of the entrance and a scatter of pebbles sits on the ground in front.

Big shapes and strong outlines suit young hands, and the sheet takes crayon well. Giving each fox a slightly different tone will keep them separate where their bodies meet.

Kits first come out into the open at four or five weeks old and spend the whole summer wrestling and chasing at the entrance. Anyone who has watched wild foxes for any length of time has almost certainly watched them doing this.
