The fox has folded itself into a closed ring. Its nose rests on the ground, one ear lies flat, the eye is a single shut curve, and the tail comes all the way around the front until the tip meets the muzzle.
Grass fills the lower third of the sheet in long crossing blades, drawn loosely with a broken edge rather than a ruled ground line. Above the animal the paper has been left entirely empty. That is unusual for this hub and it gives the picture a great deal of air, though it also means there is less here to fill than the page size suggests.
The body is almost one continuous outline with very little inside it, so this suits a smooth even fill rather than detail work. If you want somewhere to spend effort, the grass will take three or four greens without looking overworked.
The pose was observed, not invented. A sleeping fox curls into this exact ring and lays its tail over its nose and feet to use as a blanket, which is how it holds enough body heat to spend a winter night outdoors without a den.
