The fox here is drawn in full profile, facing left with one ear standing upright and a heavy brush of a tail sweeping out behind. It walks along a single ruled line of ground, and apart from one spare tree and a leaf or two drifting past, the paper around it has been left empty. That emptiness is deliberate. Every shape is large and unbroken, which suits a child who is still learning to stop at an edge.
Foxes are not obliged to be orange. Red foxes do carry that rust coat, but arctic foxes turn white through winter and a gray fox wears a salt and pepper back, so reaching for silver or brown here is not a mistake. If you want the familiar look instead, keep the chest, the tail tip and the inside of the ear paler than the rest of the body and the animal reads as a fox straight away.
A real fox moving at a trot places each back paw almost exactly where the front paw has just lifted. The habit is called direct registering, and it is why fox tracks across snow look like one straight line of prints rather than two.
