A kit has dropped into a crouch over a scatter of fallen leaves, front paws together and hindquarters raised, in the posture every young animal takes just before it pounces on something that is not going anywhere.
About a dozen leaves lie on the ground beneath it, each one drawn with clear lobes and a stem and no two set at quite the same angle. Trunks rise at the left and right edges to frame the page, their branches carrying more leaves across the top, and a single leaf hangs caught mid fall in the open space above the kit.
The animal is lightly drawn, a short ruff, a hatched tail, one small dark patch at the tail tip, and the middle of the sheet stays generously open around it.
Scattered leaves are an invitation to use every color you own, and it works here because the rest of the page is plain enough to carry it. Reds, ambers and browns on the ground with a few still green up in the branches will read as early autumn. Foxes bury surplus food and come back for it later, and they remember where they put it, which is part of why a kit this age spends so much of the day practicing on leaves.
