These are original princess characters rather than any studio's, which turns out to be an advantage: with no established color scheme to match, a gown can be any color a child wants without it being wrong. These 15 princess coloring pages cover ball gowns, towers, gardens, horses and one small friendly dragon. Every design downloads as a free printable PDF sized for US Letter paper.

Princess in a Flowing Ball Gown Surrounded by Stars and Princess With a Crown of Wildflowers are the two most straightforward. Princess in a Tall Tower With a Very Long Braid and Princess Riding a White Horse Through a Forest give more scene to fill. Princess Befriending a Small Friendly Dragon is the one that tends to get chosen first.

The gown is the whole page, and the thing that lifts it above a flat fill is treating the fabric as folds. Wherever the drawn lines gather, at the waist, inside a sleeve, along the hem, press harder with the same pencil rather than reaching for a different color. One color at three pressures reads as satin. Three different colors at one pressure reads as patchwork.

The detailed half of the set trades the single figure for a full scene. Princess Dancing at a Grand Royal Ball and Princess Reading in a Grand Royal Library are the two architectural pages, and both work better if the room stays muted so the gown still carries the sheet. Princess Taming a Wild Unicorn, Princess With Animal Friends in a Woodland and Princess Sailing a Boat on an Enchanted Lake move her outdoors. Twin Princesses in Matching Gowns and Crowns is the useful one when two children want to work on the same sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you color a dress so the fabric looks like fabric?

Use one color and vary the pressure. Press hardest where the drawn folds converge, the waist, the inside of a sleeve, under a gathered hem, and lightest on the parts of the fabric that bulge toward you. Leaving a few narrow strips of bare paper along the top of each fold gives the highlight that reads as satin or silk.

Are these based on any films or characters?

No. Every princess here is an original design, which means there is no official palette to get wrong and no licensing to worry about for classroom or party use. Color the gowns however you like.

Which princess pages suit preschoolers?

The ball gown, the wildflower crown and the friendly dragon sheets all keep one large figure with clear outlines and a simple background. The magical garden and the tower scenes contain more small detail and suit ages six and up.

How do you color long hair?

Long continuous strokes that follow the direction the hair falls, never short scribbles. Build two or three layers, letting some strokes run darker than others so the strands separate, and leave a broad soft band of lighter paper where the light would strike the top of the head. A braid takes the same approach, one segment at a time, dark where each strand passes underneath.
