Princess With Animal Friends In A Woodland Coloring Page

A princess stands in the middle of this page with four animals gathered close. A deer leans in at her hip, a cat sits at her feet, a shaggy long furred creature rests against the deer, and a small bushy tailed animal perches up on the right. She wears a tiara over long waved hair and a gown with a patterned bodice and a wide skirt. Behind them a castle turret rises between the trees, and the entire sheet is enclosed in a thick border of open flowers, leaves and curling stems that runs right to the edges.

This is an adult sheet and the border alone will take an evening. Dozens of separate blooms, each one closed and distinct.

The trap here is filling everything. Hold the border to two or three quiet tones and put your strong color on the princess and the animals, or the figures sink into the foliage and the page loses its subject.

The woodland animals gathering around a gentle human is one of the oldest images in European folklore, long predating any film version. It appears in saints' lives from the sixth century onward as a sign that someone is harmless.
