Princess Opening A Glowing Magic Gift Box Coloring Page

A princess leans over a tall square gift box and lifts the lid clear. A soft haze spills up out of the opening, and the big looped bow that was holding it shut has come away and now floats in the air to her right, trailing a few four pointed sparks. She reaches with both hands, mouth open in surprise, crown on her head and a long skirt sweeping the ground behind her. A wide oval marks the patch of ground they stand on, and wispy grass and small flowers fill the space to either side.

The box is drawn in proper two point perspective, with the ribbon bands wrapping round two faces at once. Following those bands with your pencil is a quick lesson in how boxes work.

Leave the haze above the lid alone. It is the one part of the drawing that only works if it stays paler than everything around it.

The floating bow is worth pointing out to a child, because it tells you the lid came off a moment ago rather than being lifted slowly. Illustrators use a detached object like that to put a scene in motion without drawing any motion lines.
