Printing and Coloring Tips

Print the banner and the wreath on cardstock. Both are designed to be written on after coloring, and copy paper curls as soon as a marker crosses it. Color first and write second, or the ink smudges into the still damp crayon.

Get the flag right before the coloring starts. The stripes alternate red and white beginning and ending with red, and the corner field is blue. Our flag sheets carry fewer than fifty stars on purpose, since fifty at this size would be too small for a child to color, so treat the star count as a talking point rather than a drawing to copy.

Keep the poppy pages to one red and one green. The poppy reads as a remembrance symbol because of that flat, single red, and adding a second shade of pink or orange loses it immediately.

Print one flag sheet per child and the finished pages make a straightforward wall display. The parade sheet and the saluting child work best mounted side by side.
