Unicorn Sitting Beside A Princess In A Garden Coloring Page

A unicorn has folded its legs and settled on the grass, head lifted, long spiral horn tilted back, mane falling in heavy waves down its neck. A princess stands beside it with her hands together at her chest, in a full skirted gown with a tiara set in her long hair. Behind them the background is filled edge to edge with loose spirals and scattered small flowers, and the whole scene sits inside a deep ornamental frame of scrolls and curling stems, with two large open blooms anchoring the bottom corners. There is a great deal of line here and none of it is large.

Treat the frame and the scene as two separate jobs. If the border stays in one narrow range of color and the two figures get everything else, the eye goes where it should. Reverse that and the frame swallows the picture.

The pairing of a maiden and a unicorn is very old. It runs through a set of medieval tapestries woven around 1500 that still hang in Paris and New York, where the unicorn will approach her and no one else.
