This is a close crop. The unicorn's head and neck come down from the top of the page and the muzzle actually touches the surface, with five ripple rings spreading out from the point of contact across the pool. None of the body is shown at all. The horn is long and ridged and lies almost horizontal because of how far the head has dropped, and the mane sweeps back behind the ear in three thick locks. Rocks line both banks, several drawn with small pebbles beside them, and a few flowers and grass tufts sit at the water's edge. The ripples are the best part of this page to color. Working from a pale center outward to a deeper blue at the outer ring makes the water look like it is moving, and it takes about five strokes to do. Six and up. The old story is that a unicorn's horn purified poisoned water, which is why so many medieval pictures show one dipping its horn into a stream rather than simply drinking from it as this one does.
