A child's open hand and forearm take up the whole left side of this page, drawn large with the palm creases marked in and all five fingers spread apart. A shirt cuff wraps the wrist at the bottom corner. On the right, a baby unicorn about a quarter of that size leans in and touches its nose to the tip of one finger. Its horn is a short spiral with ridges cut across it, set between two upright ears, and a single wide eye with lashes sits below. The legs are caught mid step, each hoof marked off by a band, and a curled tail trails behind.
Horses really do greet one another nose to nose, exchanging breath, so the pose here is closer to life than most unicorn art gets.
The hand is the largest unbroken shape on the sheet and it makes a good place to practice even pressure with a pencil, since any patchiness shows immediately across an area that size. Leave the palm creases uncolored so they still read as lines. Keep the unicorn pale against it and the two subjects stay separate.
