Mermaid Watching Shooting Stars From The Ocean Surface Coloring Page

A mermaid sits on a large scalloped shell at the right of this page, her back to the viewer, gazing up at a sky that is absolutely packed with things. There are perhaps two hundred separate marks up there: five pointed stars at four different sizes, four pointed sparkles, dotted trails curving through like meteor tracks, and scattered among them dozens of tiny shells, snails, fish and starfish. It reads as a night sky and as a treasure hunt at the same time, and a child will happily spend twenty minutes finding shapes in it before coloring anything. Below, the sea is ruled in long calm horizontal lines to the horizon. Her tail curls across the water in a band of small scales and ends in a wide fluke on the left. Heavy ornamental corners with dark flowers frame the sheet, and a bed of blossoms and mandala shapes fills the bottom right. Leave most of the sky white and color only the larger stars, or the effect of scattered light is lost.
