This is the only interior in the collection and the only page built on perspective. A vaulted hallway runs straight away from the viewer, and seven ribbed arches recede one behind another toward a tall window at the far end. Heavy round columns line both sides, each banded with a carved collar partway up and a wide base at the floor, and the arches spring from their tops in long curves. The stones of each arch are drawn individually, so every rib is a row of separate wedge shapes waiting for color. Underfoot the floor is paved with large irregular flagstones that shrink as they recede, which is a gift for anyone who enjoys coloring a repeating pattern with a built in gradient. At the end of the hall a lancet window sits above an arched doorway, both divided into small panes. There is no furniture, no figures and no background beyond the architecture. Work the ceiling in a cool tone, the floor in a warm one, and shade each successive arch slightly darker toward the far end, and the corridor gains real depth.
