The point of this page is the water. A broad moat curves right across the bottom third of the sheet, drawn with a few long ripple lines and a scatter of small oval shapes, and it is the largest single area on the page. The castle behind it is low and wide, a long curtain wall with square battlements running from edge to edge, one round tower at each end and a taller gatehouse in the middle carrying a pointed roof and two flags. A stepped bridge runs from the middle of the water straight up to the arched gate, and the arch is drawn open so the dark interior is left as white paper rather than filled. Three tall lancet windows are spaced along the wall. Two little round trees and several clumps of grass grow on the banks. The scale is friendly and everything is drawn with a thick, slightly wobbly line that suits a young child. Blue in the moat, gray in the stone and green on the banks is the obvious plan, and the two flags are the natural place for a bright accent.
