A gatehouse fills this sheet from edge to edge, and almost every surface of it is ruled into individual stone blocks. Two round towers flank a deep arched gateway, each topped with a conical roof, a band of carved decoration and a small finial. The gate itself is a pair of heavy timber doors laid with vertical planks and studded with iron bands and rings. Above the arch runs a carved frieze of rosettes and quatrefoils, and above that a traceried window and a flagpole flying a long pennant. Battlemented walls run off to both edges of the page. The stone is the commitment here. There are several hundred individual blocks, and coloring every one separately in slightly varied grays is exactly the sort of long repetitive task this kind of sheet exists for. A single guard in a helmet stands at the foot of the right hand tower, small and easy to miss. The corners carry heavy scrollwork with hanging lanterns and two strange winged fish, and a cobbled apron of flagstones spreads out toward the viewer at the bottom.
