A spooky castle stands on a headland with a large full moon rising behind its tallest spire. Six bats cross the sky, each drawn as a filled silhouette with scalloped wings and two small eyes, and they are already black, so leave them alone and let them read as shapes cut out of whatever you put behind them. The moon is a plain open circle, the biggest unbroken area on the sheet and the obvious place for a wash of pale yellow. The castle has a tall central tower with a needle spire, a gabled hall to the left, a small round turret on the right, and rows of arched windows. Two spindly leafless shrubs grow at the base of the walls. Be aware before you start that the hillside under the castle is filled solid black across the bottom right of the page, so about a fifth of the sheet cannot be colored at all. That is a defect in the drawing rather than a design choice, and the simplest way to live with it is to treat the black as night ground and keep the sky pale so the contrast looks intended.
