This is the simplest angel in the collection and probably the best place for a young child to begin. A small figure stands facing forward with her hands pressed together at her chest, a thin oval halo floating above her hair, and a plain robe that widens all the way to the bottom of the page in one uninterrupted shape. The wings are what make the sheet. They spread out sideways almost to both edges of the paper and are built from roughly thirty separate rounded feathers, arranged in overlapping rows that get longer toward the tips. Every feather is closed, so each one takes its own color, and because they are laid out in clear rows a child can work along one row at a time without losing their place. The robe below is deliberately empty. That gives you somewhere to put a pattern of your own invention, or a wash of a single color if the wings have already taken half an hour. The face carries only two dots and a curved smile, so nothing there can go wrong. Try three tones of one color graduating from the shoulders out to the wing tips, which makes the wings look lit from within.
