The locomotive comes almost straight at you, which puts its big round headlamp at the middle of the page and gives the whole sheet a single obvious focal point. A tall chimney stands above the boiler with one thin wisp of smoke curling off it, buffers and a coupling hook project at the front, and behind the engine a line of coaches with tall windows runs back to the right and shrinks toward the horizon. On the left the station platform sits under a canopy supported by columns and curved brackets, and the building behind it carries arched windows in the Victorian manner.
