A wooden tub on four wheels comes around the bend toward you, loaded past the brim with broken rock. The stones are chunky angular lumps with a few facet lines scored across them, so no two are alike and every one can take a different shade. Slate and granite tones work, but a seam of amethyst or raw gold through the pile is more fun and just as believable underground.
The cart is built from wide planks, banded at the corners with metal straps and studded with rows of round rivets. Four spoked wheels carry it, the near pair larger than the pair behind, and the rails beneath them curve up out of the bottom corner and run on into the dark.
A torch burns in an iron bracket on the left wall, its flame a single tapering outline. That flame is the only light in the scene, which gives you a reason to keep the stone nearest it pale and let the rock further back go heavier.
The tunnel is built from big rounded boulders, each a simple closed outline with plenty of room inside. They are large enough to fill quickly, so they make a good starting point before you move on to the fiddlier load of ore.
