Tractor Driving Past A Red Barn
A shingled barn with cross braced doors fills most of the sheet, with a tractor passing on the track in front of it.

The barn takes up most of this drawing and it has been given real structure. A pitched roof laid in overlapping shingles sits above plank walls, a lean to extends off the left side at a lower angle, and two sets of wide double doors are braced with diagonal timbers in a cross. The tractor passes in front on a track, small enough that the building stays the subject, though its cab, hood and lamps are all still clearly drawn.
Tall grass grows across the very bottom in long upright blades, and the track between it and the barn is marked with simple ruts.
Barn boards and roof shingles are both made of repeated units, and that is where this page gets interesting. Rather than treating each wall as one flat shape, vary the tone slightly from plank to plank, and do the same across the shingle rows. It takes longer, but it turns a big empty building into the best part of the picture. The classic barn red works well, though a silvered gray is truer to an old one.
