Toy Tractor Pulling A Wooden Wagon

A chunky little tractor rolls along with a wooden wagon hitched behind it, and the whole scene is drawn in thick confident lines with plenty of open space inside each shape. The wagon has slatted sides built from planks, so there are eight or nine separate boards to fill in before you even reach the tractor. Up front the grille is a simple ladder of horizontal bars, the cab is an open frame with a curved roof, and a short exhaust stack rises beside the hood. The tires are the best part for younger children: four of them, each ringed with deep chunky treads large enough to color one block at a time without slipping outside the line.

Scattered tufts of grass sit under and around the wheels rather than filling the ground, which keeps the bottom of the sheet light and stops the page turning into a solid green band.

Wagons like this were usually left as bare timber, so a warm tan or a honey brown across the planks will look right, and a single strong color on the tractor body will make it stand out against them. Try giving the wheel hubs their own shade so the treads read as rubber.
