Red Tractor Parked By A Wooden Fence

A tractor stands still beside a picket fence, every panel drawn cleanly so the whole machine can be taken in at once.

The tractor is standing still, which is the useful thing about this sheet. Nothing is foreshortened or half hidden by motion, so every part of the machine is drawn cleanly and you can see how it fits together. A smooth hood runs forward to a slatted grille with a round lamp set either side. The cab behind is glazed on all sides, with an upright exhaust curving past it. Four heavy treaded wheels carry the whole thing, the rear pair noticeably taller than the front.

A picket fence runs the full width of the page behind, each paling drawn with its own pointed top, and loose grass grows along the base of it and out into the yard.

That fence is what makes this one easy to plan. It sits behind everything, so fill it first and in something quiet, a weathered timber brown or a soft white, then bring the tractor forward with a much stronger shade. Farm tractors are traditionally painted one bold color from hood to fender, so resist splitting the body up. Save your second choice for the wheel rims.
