An old river steamer glides to the left across a wide, calm channel. Two tall funnels rise from the middle of the vessel and a ribbon of smoke trails back from the taller one. The upper deck runs almost the full length as an open promenade, fenced by a railing and lined with arched windows. Under it, a second row of small round portholes marches from bow to stern, with an anchor and a single round port up near the stem. A slim mast stands aft of the funnels.
Both banks are drawn as low clouds of foliage, with one bare little tree on the left, and the river fills the lower third in long unhurried ripples. The wake curls away behind the hull.
There is a lot of flat white on the ship's sides, which makes this a comfortable page for testing a new set of pencils. Give the two decks separate tones so the promenade reads clearly, then keep the river pale so the steamer stays the brightest thing on the water.
