Flames do most of the work on this sheet. They roll off the roofline of a two story building in long licking shapes, push out through the middle window and flicker inside the two windows on either side, all of it left as open outline so it can be colored rather than blocked in. In front of the building stand two firefighters in bunker gear. The one on the left is turned in profile, helmet brim tipped forward, face clearly visible, with an air cylinder strapped to the back and reflective bands circling the jacket and boots. The second firefighter has their back to us, so you see the tank, the belt and the rear of the helmet instead of a face. A hose runs between them and snakes off to both edges of the page in one long loop. Small details reward a second look: tufts of grass in the bottom corners, an open door frame at the right, and a single bird gliding through the empty sky. Keep the flames in warm tones and the gear in one strong color, and the two figures will read clearly against all that movement behind them.
