Zoomed right in, this page shows one part of a machine instead of the whole thing. The arm runs diagonally down from the top left, hydraulic cylinders lying alongside it, and ends in a wide bucket that occupies the lower middle of the sheet. Pivot pins, bolt heads and the linkage plates that connect arm to bucket are all drawn clearly enough to count. A sliver of the cab is visible at the left edge. Flowers sit in three corners and a few loose petals drift through the open space, which is an odd pairing with heavy machinery and somehow works. Scale is what makes it enjoyable. Because everything is enlarged, the mechanical parts that are usually too small to color properly are here big enough to treat individually. Cylinder rods can take a silver or pale gray, the body a strong color, the pins something darker. Petals and blooms give you somewhere to put a completely different palette. Large open areas inside the bucket mean it does not take forever despite the detail. Someone who likes how things fit together will enjoy this more than a full machine portrait.
