Three four engine bombers hold a V across the top half of this sheet. The leader sits high on the right and banks over far enough that you are looking straight up at its belly, while one wingman rides low to the left and another low to the right. Every aircraft carries four radial engines with the propeller blades caught mid turn, one long straight wing to a side, a glazed nose and a single tall fin. Line weight stays light and even throughout, so a sharp pencil can pick out the panel seams running along the wings without the drawing going muddy.
Below the formation a bank of big rounded clouds runs the full width of the page, and beneath that a wooded ridge of conifers and round headed trees fills the bottom quarter. Three separate zones, then, and each one takes a different approach: hard edges on the aircraft, soft blending in the cloud bank, and short repeated strokes for the treeline.
The open sky between the planes and the cloud tops is the largest blank area on the page. Resist flooding it. A pale wash that deepens toward the top edge pushes the bombers forward, and saving your darkest tone for the engine cowlings keeps all three aircraft reading as one flight.
