Seaplane Landing On A Calm Mountain Lake Coloring Page

A floatplane settles toward still water head on, pontoons almost touching, with its mirror image rippling underneath.

This floatplane is drawn head on, coming straight at you as it settles toward the water. The wing runs right across the page above the cabin, a propeller with a domed spinner sits at the nose, and two long pontoon floats hang beneath on angled struts. Behind the aircraft a single large peak rises with smaller foothills either side, and stands of pine crowd both shorelines. The waterline cuts straight across the middle, and below it the whole aircraft repeats as a reflection, broken up by short dashes standing in for ripples.

That reflection is the thing to plan for. Color it a few shades lighter than the aircraft above and the water reads as water. Match them exactly and the page looks like two planes.

The pine stands are small and repetitive, which makes them a good warm up before tackling the larger shapes.

Floats cost you speed. They add drag and weight and knock a useful chunk off cruise, and pilots accept that because in much of Alaska and northern Canada the lake is the only runway within a hundred miles.
