Mushroom With Raindrops In A Meadow

Rain is falling across this meadow, and one broad mushroom is standing right in the middle of it. Look closely at the cap and you will see that the markings are teardrop shaped too, as though the drops have landed and stayed put. More drops hang from the rim underneath, ready to fall, and others tumble through the air above. Curling spirals and small rings fill the space around the mushroom, giving the air a swirling, breezy feel. Beneath the cap, fine lines radiate outward from the stalk in a neat fan. The bottom third of the page is thick meadow: long blades of grass crossing over each other, broad leaves, a handful of open flowers and one tiny mushroom hiding among the stems. Four small flourishes decorate the corners of the border. There is more detail here than on our simplest sheets, so it rewards fine tipped pens or colored pencils rather than fat crayons. A good approach is to work through the grass in several greens first, then the flowers, and finish with the raindrops in a single pale blue so they read as one falling shower.
