A large moon fills most of this page and a phoenix flies straight across it. The moon is drawn as a plain circle with a handful of soft cratered patches shaded in, and it is easily the biggest single shape in the phoenixes collection, which makes it the obvious place to start. The bird crosses it from lower left to upper right with one wing raised high behind it, built from four long swept feathers, and the other tucked in close to the body. Its tail sweeps down to the bottom right in three tapering plumes and its clawed feet hang below. Two small four pointed sparkles sit on the moon's face beside its head. Because the bird overlaps the disc, this is a page about contrast rather than detail. Put a pale warm tone on the moon and something much deeper on the phoenix and it becomes a proper silhouette. Reverse it, with a dark sky and a pale bird, and it works just as well. Everything outside the circle is empty white paper.
