Phoenix Rising Dramatically From Bright Flames Coloring Page

A phoenix lifts off a bank of open flames with both wings raised, drawn with thin lines and very large blank areas.

A phoenix lifts straight up out of a fire with both wings thrown open above its back, and the drawing is kept deliberately spare. The wings are long and pointed, each split into five or six tapering feather shapes with barely a line inside them, and the body below is one smooth outline with a few short ticks to suggest a breast. Beneath it about ten flames rise in a cluster from the bottom of the page, each drawn as a single curling open shape with a teardrop tip, and two small sparks float free to the sides. That is the entire picture. There is no ground, no background and no ornament of any kind, which makes this the most open sheet in the phoenixes collection and the one a young child will finish happily. The flames give you an easy gradient to practice on: deepest at the base, brightest at the tips. Keep the bird itself in one strong color so it stays separate from the fire, and leave a little white at the wing edges for lift.
