A scaled dragon coils on a rock between tall crystals, one wing spread. Hundreds of scales for patient adult colorists.

This dragon has coiled its body into a loop and settled on a low rock, tail curled around in front, head turned to one side. One wing is spread wide with every rib and membrane panel drawn in, and the scales are worked individually from the neck to the tail tip. Tall pointed crystals rise on both sides, and a border of small flowers and snowflake shapes runs around the edge.

Count on a long sitting. The scales alone number in the hundreds, and the wing membrane has fine radiating lines that a marker will destroy.

Crystals give you an unusual opportunity. Rather than picking one blue, fill adjacent facets in slightly different tones and leave a white stripe down one edge of each. The shapes will look faceted and lit from inside without any blending.

Ice as a dragon element is a modern idea. Medieval bestiaries gave dragons fire, venom or crushing strength, and the frost breathing variety only became standard once fantasy games needed a way to sort monsters into types.
