Sonic Running Through a Palm Tree Zone Coloring Page

The hedgehog runs straight toward the reader down a tiled path lined with tall palms, a ring floating above his head and rounded clouds behind.

This is the most ambitious sheet in the Sonic set and the one that will take longest. The path runs from the bottom edge to a vanishing point behind him, tiled in a grid that shrinks with distance, which is a ready made job: alternate two tones across the tiles and the perspective does the rest, producing a road that genuinely recedes.

The palms are the other half. There are a dozen of them at different depths, each with a segmented trunk banded all the way up and a crown of long fronds, and the leaflets are drawn as separate fillable strokes rather than as texture.

Separating a page into layers like this is worth doing because a child instinctively colors back to front, and here each layer is a different kind of work: repetitive bands on the trunks, loose foliage, then the satisfying tiled path at the end.

The ring above him is a proper open band, and the clouds are left blank inside.
