The blue hedgehog sprints across the page with both fists up and his quills swept back into a long sweep behind his head, with a couple of speed strokes trailing low where his feet have been.

The quills are the signature of the character and they are drawn as separate tapered spikes rather than one combed mass. Each is a closed shape, which means someone can run a slightly darker tone along the underside and the head suddenly has form. Drawn as a single silhouette, which is the usual shortcut, the whole back of his head is one flat area and the page loses its best feature.

The sneakers are oversized on purpose, with a plain toe cap, a thick sole and a band across the middle, and the trailing one shows its ribbed sole from underneath. That sole is the one piece of fine repeated detail on an otherwise bold sheet, and it is the part most children slow down for.

His cuffs are drawn as separate rolled bands at the wrists and ankles, so the gloves and shoes each sit against a ring rather than straight against the limb.

There is no scenery at all behind him. The figure is large, the page is clean, and the whole sheet is about one pose.
