The hedgehog stands at the finish with both thumbs up, a banner strung on two tall posts above him and a striped barrier running across the track at his waist.

The barrier is the strongest pattern on the sheet. It is a long horizontal band filled with regular diagonal stripes running its whole width, which is exactly the kind of thing that looks sharply finished for very little effort: alternate two tones along the stripes and the result is cleaner than anything a child could freehand.

The banner above carries a row of plain rectangular flags hanging from a line, each one blank. Blank on purpose. Every sheet in this wave is drawn with no lettering anywhere, and an empty flag is also an invitation, which plenty of children accept.

The two posts are plain columns with a ball finial on top and a wide foot at the base, three parts each.

The track below is drawn in perspective with lines converging toward the back, giving the lower third real depth.

His arms are up and out in a wide V, which keeps both clear of his head and gives the figure a strong triumphant outline.
