A chest stands with its lid open on a stack of blocks, a latch on the front and a torch mounted on the wall above to one side.
The chest is drawn with the lid raised so you see the planks on its inner face, and that inner surface is a separate region from the outer front. Treating them as two different tones is what makes the box read as open rather than as a flat shape with a line through it. This is the clearest example in the wave of how much a tone difference does compared to a shading effort.
The plank lines run across both lid and body in long horizontal boards with visible grain, and iron studs are set along the edges, so the wood and the metalwork are separate things to color.
The latch is a plain plate with a slot in it, centered on the front where the eye lands first.
The blocks it sits on are drawn as rough hewn stone with a top face and a front face each, several of them stacked in courses.
The torch is a small post with a stepped flame, drawn at a distance so it does not crowd the chest.
