A heeler puppy stands square in the middle of a wide puddle in a pair of rain boots, with water thrown up in two tall arcs to her left and right and a scatter of loose droplets in the air around her.

The droplets are the point of the sheet. Each one is its own closed teardrop with white space all around it, not a connected spray. Drawn as one splash shape the water ends up a single blob of blue. Drawn separately you can run a gradient out from the boots, deepest near the splash and almost white at the tips, and the page suddenly has depth that nobody had to be taught to add.

The puddle beneath her is a broad flat oval with ripple rings inside it, so there are several closed bands and therefore several tones available if you want them.

The boots are plain cylinders with a cuff line and nothing else. No buckles, no tread pattern, nothing small. Boots are what most children color first and brightest, and giving them big unbroken sides means that bold red or yellow goes down cleanly instead of being chopped into pieces.
