Bluey Digging in the Sandpit Coloring Page

A heeler puppy sits in a round patch of sand with a spade standing in the ground in front of her and a bucket beside it, a turret of sand already tipped out and standing next to the bucket.

Sand is a problem on a coloring page. Draw it as texture and you get hundreds of stipple dots that take an hour and look muddy. This sheet leaves the sand as one large open field with only a few scattered grains marked on it, and puts all the detail into the objects sitting there. One pale tone across the whole pit, done, and the bucket and spade carry the brightness.

The bucket is a plain tapered tub with a rim band, and the spade is a blade and a stick. Deliberately simple, because they are the two things a child will want to make loud.

She is wearing a collar with a small round tag on it, which is the one piece of fine detail on the page and the bit most children save until last.

Her pose is a straightforward sit with both front paws down, which keeps her outline unbroken and easy to work around.
