Thirty or more flower heads crowd this frame from the bottom edge up to about two thirds of its height, and almost none of them repeat. Coneflowers with domed stippled centers lean over the front row, daisies open flat beside them, tall spires of small bells rise behind, and dry seed heads and unopened buds fill the gaps on thin stems. Long grass blades cut through everything at an angle.
Above the flowers the drawing thins into faint swirls and a few ghosted blooms rendered in much lighter lines, which gives the eye a rest and gives you the option of leaving the top of the sheet nearly empty. Scrolled ornaments occupy each corner and a thin rule frames the whole composition.
Color choice matters more than technique here. Choose a limited palette of four or five shades, let the stippled centers carry your darkest tone, and the meadow holds together. Use every pencil in the tin and it turns into noise. Keep stems and grasses to one or two greens for the same reason. Sharp points, a sharpener nearby, and an hour or two.
