An iron gate stands closed in the middle of this page, hung between two tall square pillars. Its head is a pointed arch filled with facing scrolls and a row of rings, and below that the bars run straight down and are crossed by three horizontal rails. Another row of rings sits along each rail, so the whole gate reads as a grid of circles and uprights.
The pillar on the left is capped with a stepped plinth and a small urn. The one on the right holds a shallow planter with a vine spilling over the edge and hanging down in long strands of heart shaped leaves. A second vine trails from the left cap.
Behind the bars, bushy foliage presses up against the ironwork and hides whatever lies further in. In front, cupped flowers sit on tall strap leaves at both sides, small clumps of grass fill the lower corners, and a line of flat stepping stones leads away toward the gate. Line weight stays even throughout, so this is an easy page to work section by section, and the ring motifs are the obvious place to try a repeating pattern.
