This page stacks three very different bands on top of each other, and that is what makes it rewarding to work through.
At the bottom is the terrace, paved in large rectangular slabs whose joins run away from you toward a low parapet wall. Free standing pots are placed across the paving, holding spiky grasses, a round headed shrub and a flowering plant. A deep planter box runs the length of the parapet, packed with upright leaves and small blooms. In the bottom left corner a large flower cluster pushes into the frame with wide leaves and a heavy round bud.
Behind the wall stands the city. Towers of different heights are ruled into grids of small windows, a slim spire climbs highest near the middle, and a dome sits at either side. A few flat cloud shapes drift between the buildings.
Above the roofline the sky turns decorative. Spirals, leaf shapes, open flowers and a handful of butterflies fill it from edge to edge, with small round medallions tucked into the corners.
Treating that upper band as pattern rather than as sky is the easiest way to approach it, and holding the buildings to grays or blues keeps the planting up front where it should be.
