A row of containers runs across the lower half of this page: two round wooden tubs with grain lines and banding, a long low trough in the middle, and a squarer planter at the right. Herbs rise out of all of them, and each plant is drawn differently. Some carry pairs of small oval leaves climbing a thin stem, one sends up a spike of tiny flowers, and the one on the right unfurls into broad ribbed leaves.

Between the pots stand wooden marker stakes, each holding a flat rectangular plate. Three of those plates are printed with the word herbs. The remaining two have been left blank, which turns them into somewhere to write in the names of whatever you actually grow before or after coloring the page.

The soil in the middle trough is speckled with seed marks, and a scatter of pebbles lies across the ground in front. Above the plants the sheet is bare, so the tops of the tallest stems have clear air around them. That open band keeps the row of pots from feeling packed and makes the leaf shapes easy to follow one at a time.
