The pond fills most of this page, drawn as a wide oval seen from the bank so the far edge sits high on the sheet. Its surface is worked in long broken ripple lines that follow the curve of the water. Round lily pads float across it, each one notched with a narrow wedge cut in from the rim and marked with a few radiating veins.
A single koi swims across the lower left, its body lined with overlapping scales and its fins trailing behind it in soft curves. It sits just under the surface, partly crossed by the ripple lines.
Water lilies bloom around the whole margin, built from ring after ring of pointed petals closing on a dotted center. Between them stand narrow buds on bare stalks, blade shaped reeds, one tall cupped poppy on the left, and broad rounded leaves that spill into the bottom corners. Light scrollwork curls through the upper corners and traces a loose frame around the edges. This is one of the denser sheets in the collection and it rewards patience rather than speed.
