A sawn log lies across this page on the diagonal, its cut end turned toward you at the lower left so the growth rings show as a tight spiral wrapping in on itself. A second log crosses behind it from the left edge, and a third sits at the right with a dark split down its side. What covers the near log is not drawn as moss but as flowers: hundreds of small round heads packed shoulder to shoulder, each with its own ring of short petals and a pebbled middle. The mass of them runs from the cut end up over the top of the trunk. Along the bottom, larger five petal blooms and rounded leaves crowd in, and a loose spray of stems and buds floats free in the top right corner.

Count on this one taking a while. The flower heads alone number in the hundreds and none of them are bigger than a fingernail.

A fine tip is worth digging out for it. If you only have broad markers, block that flower mass as one field and put your detail into the bark instead, where the lines are further apart.
