Two bird of paradise stems open across the top of this sheet. Each one is a long boat shaped bract lying sideways with narrow pointed petals standing straight up out of it, and that upright crest is the part worth coloring last, once the bract underneath is settled. Three hibiscus flowers fill the lower half. Their petals are wide and softly ruffled at the outer edge, with fine lines running back toward the throat of each bloom, and a long stamen curves out of every center ending in a cluster of small dots. A fourth flower sits at the left edge, turned away so only its back petals show. Broad pointed leaves fan out behind all of it and overlap in places, which gives you a reason to vary your greens rather than flatten them into one tone. One closed bud stands on a slim stem to the right. The background is left completely blank, so anything you put there is yours to invent. Keep the stamens light, because heavy color will swallow the dotted tips that make these blooms read as tropical.
