The view puts you in the crowd, which is an unusual angle for a coloring sheet and it makes the page work. Along the bottom, six onlookers are drawn from behind as heads and shoulders only, so no face is turned toward you and each one becomes a big simple shape of hair and a coat. Above them the street opens up and a low flat cart rolls past on two wheels, carrying an enormous top hat with a wide brim and a banded buckle that is left completely empty inside. Three children march alongside, all turned to the right in profile. The first carries a round drum held out in front, and the two behind have a hand raised in a wave. The band, the buckle and the hat give you three big clean areas at the top, the marchers give you small careful work in the middle, and the row of backs along the bottom is the easiest part of all. It is a sheet that can be shared, with a younger child taking the crowd and an older one taking the float.
