Saint Patrick is drawn standing in profile, facing to the right, which keeps his face simple and his whole figure readable as one clear silhouette. On his head is the tall pointed mitre of a bishop, banded across the brow and rising to two soft peaks. In front of him he holds a shepherds crook, a long slim staff that curls over into a spiral at the top, and his hand closes around it at about chest height. A shamrock sits on his chest, three rounded leaflets on a short stem, which is the detail the whole legend turns on since he is said to have used one to explain three things in one. His robe falls in long straight folds all the way to the floor, and the two bands running down the front of it are deliberately plain so they can carry a pattern of your own. A wide sleeve hangs from his raised arm. Nearly half the sheet is robe, which makes this a good page for anyone who likes to spend a long time on one large area rather than dozens of small ones.
