This is a mandala in everything but name, a round cluster of lucky symbols packed so tightly that their edges touch, radiating out from a single many petaled flower at the middle. Hearts do most of the work. There are more than a dozen of them in several sizes, alternating between plain open outlines and versions crusted with dots, curls and beading. A large horseshoe anchors the bottom of the circle with a smaller one beside it, star shaped blossoms fill the gaps around the outer edge, and loose circles drift near the rim like bubbles.
Because the cluster is roughly symmetrical without being exactly so, it takes color in either of two ways. Picking one scheme and rotating it around the circle produces something formal and quiet. Filling each symbol independently produces something closer to a scrapbook page, which suits the loose construction rather better.
The plain hearts are the resting places. Alternating a detailed shape with a flat one keeps the whole thing from reading as a single gray texture at arm's length.
