A flag flies from a tall pole that runs from the top of the page down to the bottom edge, finished with a small ball at the head. The flag itself streams out to the right and ripples as it goes, so the stripes bend into long soft curves rather than running straight. The canton in the upper corner is filled with a scatter of outlined five pointed stars.
Worth knowing if you are using this with a class: the stars are a loose field rather than an accurate fifty in rows, and the stripes read as about seven rather than thirteen. It is a drawing of a flag, not a diagram of one, and it is a perfectly good prompt for a child who wants to count out the real numbers for themselves.
As a coloring job it is very forgiving. Long wide stripes, a clear block for the canton, and a great deal of white around it.
The thirteen stripes stand for the original colonies and the star count has changed twenty six times. The current design was drawn in 1958 by a seventeen year old for a school project, and his teacher gave it a B minus.
